A cattle ranch outside Houston, Texas says its pairing of an award-winning beer with its hay supply makes Kobe-style beef produced at the farm more flavorful.
Texas T Kobe ranch in Wallis, Texas adds Endeavor IPA to hay fed to wagyu cattle which are locally bred and hormone-free. Endeavor IPA is brewed at Saint Arnold Brewing Co. in Houston. It won a Silver Medal at the 2012 World Beer Cup in the Imperial India Pale Ale category.
According to KHOU, the yeast in the double IPA makes the feed easier for cattle to digest. The beer used in the cattle’s hay results in juicier beef with rich marbling of fat throughout the meat.
Ranch owner Gene Terry says the cattle prefer hay with beer mixed in over regular hay.
