Don’t stress, it’s only a test.

That’s the message from the government agencies who are conducting the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) at 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to a joint statement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The test will be transmitted via television and radio stations within the US. Similar to state and local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt programming to indicate, “This is a test.” Unlike the state and local tests, a visual message indicating that it is a test may not appear on every channel, officials said.
