The debate over attacking Syria that’s drawing lawmakers back from recess early prompted the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to postpone Wednesday’s planned West Virginia hearing on the “future of coal.”

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) was going to run the subcommittee hearing with witnesses from the coal industry, the Energy Department and other groups.

But he said over the weekend that he’s instead coming to Capitol Hill for hearings this week on President Obama’s request for authorization for military action against the Assad regime’s alleged use of chemical weapons.
