Donald Trump’s latest announcement could be another ploy for the limelight, but the real estate mogul announced interest in purchasing the former home of the animal disease research center.

Plum Island was home to the animal disease research center starting in 1954 but a vote in 2009 proposed the construction of a new facility in Manhattan, Kan. The General Services Administration is charged with selling the island.

The 843-acre island includes bio-secure laboratory buildings, army barracks, parade grounds, ferry landing and a lighthouse. The General Services Administration issued an environmental review recommending the sale proceed in late June but plans to sell the island have been met with opposition from legislators, area residents and environmental groups.

Trump has not made any specific plans for the island, but told the Associated Press he’s interested in looking at the property.
