Entrepreneurs, academics, and investors came together at a workshop in Pittsburgh to look at some of the problems brought by the development of gas wells in the Marcellus Shale formation. As part of the workshop, participants examined business opportunities to attempt to solve some of those issues.

Ryan Abbot, one of the participants, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of HydroConfidence. It’s a new start-up company that hopes to capitalize on the shale gas drilling boom by applying technology to the issues involved. He said in an interview with 7News, “Right now there are minimal requirements for producers to be monitoring for contamination associated with drilling for natural gas.”
