Republicans– and several possible 2016 foes — are rallying behind Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) after his indictment Friday on charges of coercion of a public official and abuse of official capacity.

While the charges have provided fodder for Democratic attacks, the indictment could actually give the Texas governor an unintentional boost within the GOP field.
And for Perry, the timing couldn’t be better or more needed. He’s coming off a well-received Iowa tour, but as he heads to the New Hampshire this weekend he’s still trying to shake the image of his maligned 2012 bid, and the pending prosecution could give him a needed boost with skeptical Granite Staters.
