The expansion cost an estimated $3 million, according to an article by the Associated Press. The new line was necessary to make a product for a national food-service customer, the company said. A room was built to house the new line and modifications were made to the plant’s existing refrigeration and installation equipment, Brian Dulle reported for Kansas First News.

The Emporia plant is one of the company’s specialty meat plants.
