House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said on the House floor on Tuesday that if Congress did not pass a Department of Homeland Security funding bill by the end of the week, it would shut down the department—but that 200,000 of the department’s 230,000 employees would still go to work.

The other 30,000 employees are not deemed “essential” workers.
