Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi spent 214 days in a Mexican prison for illegally crossing the border near Tijuana, an event that he calls, “an innocent mistake.” Tahmooressi had three weapons in his truck at the time of the crossing.

As Sergeant Tahmooressi’s imprisonment became public knowledge, President Obama came under criticism for ignoring Tahmooressi entirely. Among Obama’s critics – Donald Trump!

Here’s what Trump had to say in September of 2014

“It’s not even believable… it’s not believable that our President wouldn’t call, and if he did call, he (Sgt. Tahmooressi) would be out in ten minutes… It’s inconceivable that our President wouldn’t not put in one call…” Trump went on to say that, if he were President, he would make the call and if Sgt. Tahmooressi were not released in ten minutes, “there would be hell to pay, in Mexico, and I mean economic hell.” -Donald Trump

So, after seven months, Tahmooressi was released and made it home. Just this week it came to light that Donald Trump quietly sent money to Tahmooressi to help him “jumpstart his life” back in the United States.

“In all seriousness, Donald did help out Sergeant Tahmooressi. He sent him some money to help him jump start his life. Sergeant Tahmooressi rotted in a Mexican prison for 214 days. President Obama wouldn’t even pick up the phone to help.” – Greta Van Susteren

We are glad that Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi is home.
