Several influential Senate Republicans are urging their colleagues to rethink their opposition to Donald Trump, arguing that the presumptive nominee’s malleable ideology is a superior alternative to Hillary Clinton.
In a series of media gaggles with reporters on Capitol Hill, senators ranging from party leaders to rising stars urged the party to keep an open mind on Trump’s candidacy.
“When I hear people say never, I say, ‘Look, chill,’” said Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker of Tennessee.
Several prominent Republicans, including Sens. Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, say they won’t support Trump. Others, such as Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, who wields significant influence with conservatives, have said nothing at all. More
