There is no justification for violence against the police or private citizens. I really hope people aren’t going to try to make excuses for all the violence and destruction. The rage has been simmering, all they needed was the signal to go ahead and flip the switch.
A city police car was damaged after it was set on fire overnight.
The unit was parked at a repair shop near the corner of Tom Drive at Airline when it was set ablaze around 2 a.m. Friday. Hours later, police said a Molotov cocktail was set off, causing the vehicle to burn up.
The fire was about two miles from the Triple S store where Alton Sterling was shot and killed by police Tuesday and sparked week-long protests in Baton Rouge and other cities.
The protests and the reaction to the Alton Sterling shooting have been peaceful. That may have changed last night when a Baton Rouge Police Department car was torched on Airline Drive. So far, no suspects have been identified.
Cooler heads need to prevail. The last thing we need in Baton Rouge is a Ferguson, a Baltimore, or God forbid a Dallas. That will not help anyone’s cause.
