Obama delivered his jobs speech to a joint-session of Congress on Thursday, September 8th at 7pm ET. Obama was originally scheduled to deliver the speech on Wednesday, September 7th, but his request to address a joint-session of Congress on that date was denied by Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Obama’s jobs speech was delivered on the heels of a dismal August unemployment report. Last Friday, the US Department of Labor revealed that the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.1 percent in August. In June, the unemployment rate was stuck at 9.2 percent, but fell to 9.1 percent in July.
